Top competitors drift into Grand Parade for DRIFTCity return

If speed, spinning, drifting or adrenaline-pumping action is your thing, then the Grand Parade is where you should be this weekend.
After a four-year hiatus, the much loved DriftCity is making its anticipated return on Sunday, 24 September 2023.
The iconic Grand Parade will be transformed into a 3000m² drift arena with a time attack obstacle course where 30 of the country's leading drifters and gymkhana competitors will battle it out.
While the drifting competition will be the main attraction, the event also features a lifestyle exhibition area for industry-related products, along with go-karts, food village, kids' fun zone, spectator ride-alongs and a world-class car show.
'Since its premiere in 2016, DRIFTCity has proven to be a popular event with residents of a city with a long-standing motorsport culture. DriftCity was one of the first motorsport events the City chose to get behind in our efforts to provide alternative platforms to illegal street racing and unlawful spinning. For the City of Cape Town, events such as DRIFTCity contribute greatly to our campaign to get racing off public roads and into more legal environments, while also providing an opportunity to small and medium-sized businesses with trading prospects,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security Alderman JP Smith.
Road Closures and logistics

Gates for the event will open at 11:00
Those attending the event are advised that parking is available at the Golden Acre and the Harrington Square at a flat rate.
There will be no parking on the Grand Parade and adjacent streets on the day.
Motorists and residents are advised of road closures in and around the Grand Parade on Saturday, 23 September and Sunday, 24 September 2023.
Darling Street will be closed between Lower Plain Street and Buitenkant Street from 21:00 on Saturday until 21:00 on Sunday.
Buitenkant Street will be closed from Lower Castle to Darling Street. There will be a soft closure on Strand and Castle streets.
Corporation Street will be closed from Darling Street to Long Market Street.
Parade Street will be closed between Darling Street and Caledon Street.
Commuters are also advised that due to the road closures, MyCiTi routes 101,102, 103 and 111 will be affected.
